You know that feeling on Sunday evening when you think back to your weekend and wonder where time has passed, with the impression you’ve done nothing during the last 2 days. That’s when you need a Sunday reset.
I get it, Sunday is for rest, and you don’t want to be told what to do, but a Sunday routine can also help you have a better week and avoid being overwhelmed when challenges arise.
What is a Sunday reset?

A Sunday reset is a routine you follow on Sunday to start your week more confident of your abilities to tackle the challenges that could arise. It has 2 goals. The 1st one is that you feel refreshed before starting a new week. The 2nd one is that you get you and your home ready for the week ahead.
This Sunday routine has several benefits. You’ll know better what is waiting for you during the week, limiting the stress and overwhelm during those 7 days. You’ll also reduce that uncomfortable guilt you have on Sunday evening when you have the impression you should have accomplished more.
What to do on a Sunday for your most productive week?
The Sunday chores to do

If you follow a weekly cleaning schedule, you have already done the weekly tasks and can focus on less frequent tasks like deep cleaning a room.
If you don’t or can’t follow a weekly schedule, it’s time to clean the bathroom and the kitchen, vacuum the floors, or dust the rooms where you spend most of your time. You can also catch up on laundry if it starts to pile up a little too high.
By doing those chores, you’ll get your home in order enough not to dread an impromptu visit during the week or simply enjoy a clean house when returning from work.
Plan your week ahead

I hate when I remember at the last minute that I have an appointment or an event I need to go to. That’s why every Sunday, I review my following week. Do I have any events or appointments? Any specific task to accomplish? Do I have something to do before these events, like buying a gift before a birthday? That removes the stress of doing things in a rush and gives me time to prepare when needed.
You don’t need to go all in and color code each task or event. Simply have a look at your calendar to see the following events and ask yourself if you need to do something before any of them.
Make batch cooking a part of your Sunday routine

Batch cooking will give you free time during the already packed weekdays, so you have time for more meaningful activities.
Start by reviewing what’s in the fridge to use what will expire quickly first, and meal plan accordingly. Then, go grocery shopping and prep the meals for at least the first few days of the week. Keep in mind that some meals are better fresh, and some don’t keep too long after you’ve prepared them, so eat those first.
Don’t forget to rest

Rest is vital, and humans are not made to always be in go-go-go mode. Taking time to relax should be part of your Sunday reset routine.
Following a routine will allow you to do the previous steps faster and have free time to relax or do a hobby. Don’t fill that time with more chores or work, you need some downtime! So make the most of it and enjoy it fully. Go for a walk, read a book, play with your pet… Or even do nothing if this is what you need!
How to create your Sunday reset routine
Your Sunday reset doesn’t need to be complex. You can start by reviewing the following week and add more tasks when you feel comfortable with the 1st one.
If you tend to procrastinate like me, you can use a timer for each step. It will motivate you to do the task faster and keep you on track when the couch is oh-so-tempting.
